General instructions for using Sweetbrier Studio Molds
For best results
use firm clay.
If the clay tends to stick in the mold, mist mold lightly with water (remove excess), or lightly brush the mold cavity with talcum powder (remove excess). To demold, gently flex in several directions loosening the part, then flex more fully, lifting or tipping the part from the mold.
- Make a small ring of clay about 1 1/2" in diameter.
- Gently press one side of the ornament into the clay circle so that it sits securely on the circle.
- All of the parts will be baked on the ornament and removed after baking to be finished and then will be glued in place.
- Press all of the molded parts onto the ornament to make the backs rounded for a good fit after baking. You may cover the ornament with many pieces for baking.
- Shown: globe ready for baking.
- After baking remove all the parts from the globe.
- Note circle of clay holding globe
upright.
- Clean the globe. Do not allow water to get inside of the globe if possible.
- Finish the parts. If needed paint or add drybrushed highlights.
- Varnish. Allow to dry.
- Glue parts in place in the pattern desired.
